The latest patch has made a few major changes to the challenge system.
1) Your progress for ALL challenges is saved. You no longer lose progress when picking new operations.
2) If you complete 1 part of a multipart operation, upon completion you will immediately be given the next in the series.
3) If a challenge is NOT active you can NOT see what the requirement are. This one sucks. No more looking for a cool patch and then see what you need to complete it. Only if a operation is live can you see the requirements.

Some people are reporting that they can NOT even get into operations after the patch so be careful. Mine isn’t having any problems but a friend of mine it starts a match instead of going into the operations menu.

ORIGINAL STORY:
So the patches / challenges / operations for Call of Duty Ghosts are more than a little messed up. With ZERO help from the “manual” figuring out what is what and how to do a challenge was a major pain.

First off you can NOT just work towards any patch you want. The only challenges / patches that are active are the ones listed under Operations. There are 5 categories and 10 random challenges per category. These are the only things that are actually being counted.

So how do you work towards something else? You need to pay 1 Squad Point to get a new set of 50 challenges and this RESETS all the progress of non-completed ones that you are currently working on. So you are 215/250 from Red Dot II, all lost. EXCEPT that the 5 challenges on the front page, the ones with the Gold bar on the right side, these stay with you and they keep your progress. You can set which ones you want to keep by going into the individual categories and hitting X to make one active. Make sure to change all of them to things you haven’t finished before resetting or you’ve just hosed yourself with a useless challenge.

There is no way to guarantee any specific challenge will appear and if something is a single track challenge, like Hardcore Team MVP you can get it multiple times. Obviously if you already own the Patch or any other character customization you’ve already acquired you can get the XP and Squad Points again. It appears that anything in stages you will always get the next stage. I.E. you complete Red Dot I, when you get a Red Dot operation again it will be Red Dot II and so on.

This includes outfits like the Ghille Suite. You will need to get Variable Zoom I and complete it, then refresh challenges until you get Variable Zoom II and complete that. Same for any heads or outfits. These are linked to Patches and so you need the Patch to be active.

The one question mark is Clan Wars. It’s only live until the 25th but I think all of those items are going to checked separately.

Sights and weapon camo are separate and those are tracked directly on your loadout screen and are active the second you buy them and start using them.

Hope this info clears up the new challenges system in Call of Duty Ghosts.

  1. So the clan wars is kinda messed up i have taken 5 territories and theres two patches that im sapposed to have earned the one taking 4 at once and 5 at once but still says 0 out of 25 unlocked its like its not counting anyting kinda makes me not want to ven bother with clan wars.

  3. This is a load of garbage!!! I been working for days trying to earn enough kills to unlock my ghillie suit and had about 200 points. When i went to check my progress after a match, THEY WERE ALL GONE!!!! WHERE DID THEY GO?!!! I HATE THIS GAME!!! I THINK IM DONE!!! HOWD THEY GET ERASED?!!!! AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

  4. Operations not working for me is really pissing me off. I have my fingers crossed that IW fixes it. I read that they are bringing back Search and Destroy over Search and Rescue tomorrow (11-15-13). I hope they fix the operations menu glitch.

    • Yeah mine is messed up too. Whenever I try to pull it up it takes me back to the main menu. It’s annoying that I can’t get anymore patches and stuff :/ but it’s okay. I’m sure they will fix it soon enough. We can’t be the only ones…

      • Wanted to unlock the ghillie suit , gues what after paying one squad poit to unlock new operations I can’t access them at all. Hmm, they should put an addnotation when you select the option that says,if you do that, you will not be abble to access your operations from now on because you allready did it already, but you will be able to do it after X time, IF that is the case and not a bug. I mean they released a patch that specifies “Improved operations functionality”, REALLY ? how are improved if we can’t access them? I demand my squad point back. Refuse to play this game till i’ll get my operations back or my squad point.When I PAY for something,whatever that is, I aspect you to deliver, if not I’m gonna be in your neck .

  9. Infinity Ward has created another dog turd sandwich after proclaiming they perfected the Monte Cristo. These mother fuckers have fucked this game up beyond belief. Hopefully they all die in a fiery plane crash

Yeah they really messed this up… If it isn’t broke don’t break it… I’ve been working on the chrome barrel attachment for 3 days now just to find out that about 200 of the kills didn’t count because I didn’t know / they don’t let you know you have to select the operation and then reset all the other operations… They F*#%ed it all up!

  13. Quick question — does this same approach apply to getting the different headgear/ outfits for your customized character? One of the headgears is unlocked when you get 1st 2nd 3rd place in FFA 10x. I’ve done that but it didn’t unlock. (And that challenge wasnt active on my operations). Any ideas?

    Also, any idea how to change your color of uniform camo on your soldier? It only lets me preview it and reverts back to default once I back out of that menu.

    • There will be a patch associated with the FFA 10x. This challenge / patch will have to show up in your operations for you to work on. Once it is there you’ll see that you are working towards the patch and headgear.

      I think camo is just not working right now. At the least it should be tied to map but I am definitely NOT white in Whiteout,

      • I think some may be mistaken. You can only earn new character camo through an operations.

        The winter camo most have earned is probably only for their gun. Check your gun camo when you set the camo setting as I thought the same that In White out I would have winter snow camo and saw my gun was only white.
